If you are building a new house out in the country, you are going to need to have a septic tank to handle your wastewater. But installing a new septic tank isn't as easy as just digging up a spot and plunking the tank down. There are several steps to making sure that the septic tank is placed correctly.

Physical Evaluation

The first part of the process is for the people who are doing the installation to come out to your property and do a physical evaluation. They are going to look at the lay of the land, where your house is going to be on the land, where the well is going to be, and other similar issues. Looking at everything will allow the installation company to make sure that they are picking the right location for your septic tank.

Soil Test

Another part of the installation process is to test the soil around where your tank is going to be installed. Part of the installation is having a leach field. In order to have that leach field work properly, the water needs to be able to drain out from the tank and out into the soil for a final filter. But, if your soil is very clay-heavy, then it won't filter out the way that it should. The water will just stay right around the tank. So, the installation company is going to test your soil, and they may amend the soil in the leach field as necessary. 

Permits

Once those things have happened, you are going to need to go get a permit for your septic tank to be installed. You probably have a lot of other permits in order to get your house built, but you need to have all those permits in order to make sure that your house is meeting the right codes. You will also need to have everything inspected, for the same reason. When you are applying for the permit, the city is going to want to have all the information about where your tank is going to go and the kind of soil around your tank site, as well as information from percolation tests. They are also going to want to know where your well is going to go in reference to your tank because you don't want them to be too close together.
